What gets checked

14 public sources, checked in parallel

Sanctions lists, debarment registries and public records from Brazilian and international bodies.

International sanctions

People sanctioned for terrorism, drug trafficking, corruption and other threats. The basis of AML/CFT (PLD/FT) screening.

  • OFAC: US Treasury SDN list
  • UN: Security Council consolidated list
  • European Union: financial sanctions list

CGU (Brazil's Office of the Comptroller General)

Politically exposed persons and debarment registries kept by the federal government.

  • PEP: politically exposed persons
  • CEIS: debarred and suspended
  • CNEP: penalized under the Anti-Corruption Law
  • CEAF: expelled from federal public service

TCU (Brazil's Federal Court of Accounts)

People whose accounts were ruled irregular, who were declared unfit to bid, or who are barred from public office.

  • Accounts ruled irregular
  • Debarred bidders
  • Barred from public office
  • Irregular accounts for electoral purposes

Tax and labor

Debts registered as federal tax debt (PGFN, the federal treasury's attorney office) and the MTE (Labor Ministry) registry of employers caught using forced labor.

  • PGFN: federal tax debt
  • MTE: employer registry (forced labor)

Receita Federal

CPF registration status checked in real time with Receita Federal (Brazil's federal tax authority). The name returned here feeds the lists that only search by name.

  • CPF registration status

How to read the result

Each source returns a clear status

The summary counts how many sources landed in each status. Nothing is hidden behind a single score.

  • No recordThe person does not appear in the source at the time of the lookup.
  • Record foundThere is a record with the same CPF. The entries come in the JSON and the PDF.
  • Possible matchThe source only accepts name searches and found a similar record. Confirm against the ID document before you decide.
  • Not applicableThe data the source requires was missing, such as the name for the international lists.
  • UnavailableThe source did not respond after retries. The dossier is marked partial and is not charged.

OFAC, the UN and the European Union do not use CPF, so these lists are searched by name. A name match shows up as a possible match, for human review.

How it works

A CPF goes in, a report comes out

The lookup runs in the background: all sources are checked at the same time and you can follow the progress.

  1. 01

    Enter the CPF and purpose

The purpose is required and is recorded in the report, as the LGPD (Brazil's data protection law) requires. Date of birth is optional.

  2. 02

    Parallel lookup

All 14 sources are checked together. The subject's name comes from Receita Federal and is passed to the lists that search by name.

  3. 03

    Track the progress

From the dashboard, through the API or with a callback_url that gets notified when the dossier is done.

  4. 04

    Download PDF and JSON

The PDF serves as audit evidence. The JSON lists each source with its status, date and entries.

Dashboard and API

From the dashboard or inside your own system

Both paths produce the same report and use the same balance.

For devs

API

To issue dossiers inside your onboarding flow or your customer review routine.

  • POST to create, GET to track
  • Notification on your callback_url when the dossier is done
  • PDF from a dedicated endpoint

Where to use it

For teams that need to know before they approve

Use the dossier wherever the law or your risk policy calls for screening against restrictive lists.

Banks, fintechs and payments

Sanctions and PEP screening at account opening and in periodic customer reviews, as part of your AML/CFT policy.

Foreign exchange and crypto

Screening customers against UN, OFAC and European Union lists before they transact.

Suppliers and partners

Due diligence on partners and representatives against CGU and TCU debarment registries before you sign a contract.

Scope

What the dossier covers, and what it leaves out

The dossier covers public lists and registries. Some checks common in background screening are not part of this version.

  • International sanctions, PEP, CGU and TCUCovered, with status per source
  • Federal tax debt and forced laborCovered
  • Registration status with Receita FederalCovered, checked in real time
  • Criminal records and arrest warrantsNot in this version
  • LawsuitsNot in this version
  • Credit score and financial restrictionsNot covered

The result shows each source as of the time of the lookup. Use it as input to your risk policy, with human review.

Responsible use and LGPD

Lookups with a purpose and a legal basis

Restrictive lists concern people. CPFHub.io asks for the purpose of every dossier and records it in the report.

Recorded purpose

Every dossier requires a purpose and an acknowledgment that its use complies with the LGPD. The purpose appears in the PDF and the JSON.

Legal basis

Compliance with a legal obligation, such as Lei 9.613/1998 (Brazil's anti-money laundering law), or legitimate interest. Look up only what the purpose requires.

Namesakes

A name match is not proof. Confirm any possible match before you turn someone down.

Job candidates

Only run a lookup when the role justifies it. Brazilian labor courts consider it discriminatory to require checks without a legitimate reason.

Pricing

100 credits per completed dossier

The dossier uses the same balance as other lookups. If any source is unavailable, it comes out partial and is not charged.

What is the Individual Background Check?

It is a background check report built from a CPF (Brazil's individual taxpayer ID). CPFHub.io checks 14 public lists and registries at the same time, including international sanctions, PEP, CGU and TCU debarment registries, federal tax debt and forced labor, and returns the result from each source in PDF and JSON.

Which sources are checked?

OFAC (SDN list), the UN Security Council consolidated list, European Union financial sanctions, PEP, CEIS, CNEP and CEAF from the CGU (Brazil's Office of the Comptroller General), four TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) lists (irregular accounts, debarred bidders, barred from public office and irregular accounts for electoral purposes), federal tax debt (PGFN), the employer registry for forced labor (MTE) and registration status with Receita Federal (Brazil's federal tax authority).

Does the dossier include criminal records and lawsuits?

Not in this version. The dossier covers sanctions lists and public registries. Criminal records, arrest warrants, lawsuits and credit scores are not included.

How are the international lists searched?

OFAC, the UN and the European Union do not use CPF. The search uses the subject's name, which comes from Receita Federal. A name match shows up as a possible match, so you can confirm it against the ID document before you decide.

How much does the dossier cost?

100 credits per completed dossier, from the same balance as other lookups. If any source is unavailable, the dossier comes out partial and is not charged. The price per credit depends on your plan, see /en/pricing.

Can I issue the dossier through the API?

Yes. A POST to /dossie/cpf creates the dossier and a GET with the job_id returns the result. You can also pass a callback_url that gets notified when the dossier is done, and download the PDF from a dedicated endpoint. The API key is the same one you use for other lookups.

Why is the purpose required?

Under the LGPD (Brazil's data protection law), all processing of personal data needs a purpose and a legal basis. The purpose you enter is recorded in the report and serves as an audit trail.

Can I check job candidates?

Only when the role justifies it, because of a legal requirement or a special level of trust. Outside those cases, Brazilian labor courts consider it discriminatory to require this kind of check from candidates. Confirm with your legal team.

Is the dossier an official certificate?

No. The dossier shows what each source returned at the time of the lookup, with date and time. It serves as evidence that the check was done, but it does not replace certificates issued by the agencies themselves.

Know them before you approve.
